My City of Refuge

You are my City of Refuge

from Joshua 20

Lord, once again I've run into your strong tower

You've heard my words,

my heart,

my intentions before you

I'm trusting they are fitting and pleasing in your sight

Where they are not, please show me

I wait for you

As I stay in your guarded city

Help me to remain steadfast and sure of your Word to me

Your promises and your covenantal blessing

I will not surrender that which you've given me

just as you will not surrender what is yours.

We are yours

In the conflict of this season

where I don't feel you, I don’t see you

but I know you

I trust in your goodness, your mercy, your working

I trust you will lead and guide me,

each step

that I may take no wrong turn

that I may not look away from you

that the light of your face

shine on us

that I may not speak

a word out of place

that I be led by your Spirit

guided by your light

I will stay put in peace

Where I don’t know

what to do

what to say

what to think

I remain in you

I will keep myself still

I will not be at war with you,

but at peace

in this place

I will trust in your keeping

in your leading

in your dealing

Trusting that you are doing

something mighty

sovereign

changing our circumstances

for good

according to your will

I pray for peace and prosperity

in this land

That you will cause this war

to cease

and we will live

in safe and secure dwellings

Where violence

and destruction

is no longer

Where we will no longer

see any enemy

Where tyranny will be

far from us

Where we call our walls

salvation

and our gates

praise

Be a wall of fire around us

Let your glory and power

be seen within by everyone

Your work and your power

Your grace and your comfort

Your strength and endurance

You molding and fashioning

will be glorified in us

IMMANUEL

Psalm 61:1-5

Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name.
