Your Life Is Precious
When physical ailments and times of grief or despair come in life they can feel endless. If you’re despairing of life today, know that you’re on God’s heart.
Let the book of Job bring you hope and perspective today.
In chapter thirteen and fourteen we read how desperate Job is that his life ends. Such is his torment. But we see he acknowledges God's place in life.
We may be inclined to want to give up. We might blame God for our troubles. But Job’s troubles didn’t make him disbelieve in God. They made him seek God more. He didn’t want to turn away from God, he wanted to understand God.
Consider how David also turned to the Lord as he went through his troubles.
Psalm 6:2-3 (NASB 1995)
Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am pining away; Heal me, O Lord, for my bones are dismayed. And my soul is greatly dismayed; But You, O Lord—how long?
If you’re questioning God or you’re angry at God, don’t withdraw from Him or give up from despair. Your life is precious to Him.
Job 14:5 (NASB 1995)
“Since his days are determined, The number of his months is with You; And his limits You have set so that he cannot pass.
Instead of indulging your feelings, place your hope in the Lord and seek His glory. You may not think that helps your situation but both Job and David acknowledge that God’s glory outweighs every wave of despair. It can be given afresh again and again.
Job 33:4
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
Job 38 says the LORD spoke to Job out of the storm and goes on to express His glory, His glory over all things. Then the Lord begins a conversation with Job and their dialogue is recorded until the end of the book in Job 42. Take the time to read it. You’ll see that God’s glory cannot be questioned and Job is vindicated and restored.
If you’re in despair today, let Psalm 4 be your prayer.
Psalm 4:3-5, 8 (NIV)
Know this: the LORD takes personal care of the faithful. The Lord will hear me when I cry out to him. So be afraid, and don’t sin! Think hard about it in your bed and weep over it! Selah Bring righteous offerings, and trust the LORD!... In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.
