Humility
Do you think about the term, humility, at all?
Jesus was fully God and humbled Himself to become fully man, and die a sinner’s death at the hands of men. He knew who He was but He laid His life down so that we could be raised up as the first Son of God.
He wants us to learn from Him.
Matthew 11:29 (NIV)
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Humility carries a gentle heart towards others. In putting others in a more important position than ourselves we forego demanding our way, or scheming for things we think we deserve. We think about others more than we do ourselves.
Ephesians 4:2 (NLT)
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
In this place of gentleness towards others, we worship God, and we find a place of rest.
1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
We should come alongside each other rather than boast of our strengths, or try and assert dominance. Celebrate each other, and care about another’s position, showing compassion and tender care.
1 Peter 3:8 (CSB)
Finally, all of you be like-minded and sympathetic, love one another, and be compassionate and humble,
God sees our heart. He takes our care and forbearance towards others, personally.
Matthew 25:40 (NIV)
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Spend a few moments listening to what the Holy Spirit would whisper to you this morning. Commit it to the Lord and remember it. The Lord bless you and keep you today, as you reach out to others in His gentleness and humility.
