Talk Is Cheap
There’s a saying, talk is cheap. We can say we know things but unless we back it up with knowledge our words are meaningless. It’s better not to speak at all.
Proverbs 17:28 (BSB)
Even a fool is considered wise if he keeps silent, and discerning when he holds his tongue.
Proverbs 15:2 (CSB)
The tongue of the wise makes knowledge attractive, but the mouth of fools blurts out foolishness.
Not only is it important to not speak too quickly, we need to back up what we say we believe and what we declare we know by how we live.
Thankfully, if we’ve had foolish tongues, and been full of ego, self-importance, or on the other hand been quick to self-shame and even apologise for ourselves when there’s no need, we can come before God and thank Him that His heart of love towards us is so rich that He forgives our foolishness. He gathers us into Himself and reaffirms our position in Him. He supports us in His love and acceptance. He is able to instruct us and care for us if we consider His ways more carefully and align ourselves with the teaching of His thinking in scripture.
Psalm 103:13-14 (NIV)
As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.
Psalm 103:17-18 (NLV)
But the loving-kindness of the Lord is forever and forever on those who fear Him. And what is right with God is given forever to their children’s children, to those who keep His agreement and remember to obey His Law.
The Lord is kind. The Lord is gracious, wanting to extend His wisdom to every one who looks to Him for direction.
I pray we willingly reach up and receive His counsel today. I pray that we will be truly wise and learn to speak with discernment. I pray we weigh our words well and that the words we speak will be effective and beneficial, not to serve ourselves, but others around us.
