The Secret Things

Are For Friends Only

Amos 3:3, 7 (NLV)

Do two men walk together unless they have made an agreement?... For sure the Lord does not do anything without making His plan known to His servants who speak for Him.

Most everyone has at least one friend. The closer the friendship the closer we walk alongside each other because of our similar interests, and agreement of similar values. It’s not always spoken of but it is probably referred to from time to time.

The closer the friendship the more intimate I am, the more I trust and the more I share and expose my more secret thoughts, and my heart. There is reciprocal trust. There is reciprocal time and attention given. There is forgiveness and grace, joy and sorrow shared, understanding and communication, a desire and a seeking for each other's best.

Deuteronomy 29:29

(AMP) “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things which are revealed and disclosed belong to us and to our children forever, so that we may do all of the words of this law.

(NLT) “The LORD our God has secrets known to no one. We are not accountable for them, but we and our children are accountable forever for all that he has revealed to us, so that we may obey all the terms of these instructions.

If I want to be a friend of God, and I do, I come into agreement with Him on all that He says, because of who He is. He is love. He is righteous, just and full of mercy and grace. I want to know His heart, which has many secrets too wonderful for me to ever know. I want Him to reveal Himself to me. I want to become more like Him because I look up to Him, I revere Him, I fear Him and exalt Him in my life because I worship Him. He is God of all creation and yet He actually seeks my friendship and wants to reveal Himself to me. I trust Him because I know He wants what's best for me.

Psalm 25:14 (various translations)

(ISV) The intimate counsel of the LORD is for those who fear him so they may know his covenant.

(NIV) The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.

(NLT) The LORD is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant.

(CEV) Our LORD, you are the friend of your worshipers, and you make an agreement with all of us.

(GWT) The LORD advises those who fear him. He reveals to them the intent of his promise.

(GNT) The LORD is the friend of those who obey him and he affirms his covenant with them.

(AMP) The secret [of the wise counsel] of the LORD is for those who fear Him, And He will let them know His covenant and reveal to them [through His word] its [deep, inner] meaning.

I understand the secret things are for friends only.

James 2:23 (NIV)

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NIV)

However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him — these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

I pray these verses enrich you and your reverent friendship with God today.
