A Spark of Light
Yesterday, I came across an amazing embryonic video of the first sign of life in the womb.
This sign of life is produces by flashes of light known as zinc sparks. It happens the moment one sperm fuses with one egg. Calcium in the egg cell activates with zinc ions in the egg creating small explosions and a new life is created.
I don’t think it’s any coincidence that the first thing God created was light. Science now shows that we even see the first sign of life in the womb is light. This is beautiful evidence of God and His handiwork.
The first thing God created was light, Genesis 1:3. Then, “God created mankind in His own image, male and female He created them”, Genesis 1:27. In John 8:12, Jesus described Himself as the light of the world. John 1:1-6 is the most compelling:
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
Here is biological evidence of God, described in the bible, and it is also biological evidence that life begins from the moment of conception, if anyone doubted it.
In Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus tells His disciples, “You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others that they may… glorify your Father in heaven.”
I am inspired by the reference to light that is made throughout the bible, the acknowledgment of being made in God’s image, how it is exhibited in the womb, and is finally expressed by Jesus about how we should live our lives.
Remember today, you have the light of Christ in you.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
