Stand Your Ground

When someone wears some kind of body armour, there’s a certain way they carry themselves. There's a certain way they walk. There’s a certain way they identify themselves.

When I walk out into my day wearing God's armour I take my bearings in the knowledge of God’s mighty power and my carriage reflects that. His equipping prepares me for any eventuality and instructs my choices and my actions. It affords me an authority I don’t have on my own.

Ephesians 6:10-11 (NLT)

Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armour so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

Ephesians 6:14-17 (NLT)

Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armour of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

This armour is designed to shape me in valour, assurance and right-standing. It doesn’t allow me to move as freely as I would without the armour because then I wouldn’t be protected. Wearing it reminds me to stay alert and watchful at all times against an enemy I can’t see and who likes to use ambush as part of its strategy against me. This full body armour reminds me that I am fully protected. Wearing it reminds me how to identify myself and that I am engaged in that identity at all times.

Take some time to remember what each component means for you and put on each piece with intentionality. No matter what direction your day takes, stand your ground, being prepared and engaged, ready for any eventuality, resolved in your identity.
